Former chief strategist Steve Bannon is taking on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, according to an interview between Bannon and the Economist Friday evening.
President Trump has been urging McConnell to take action on Trump’s agenda for weeks on Twitter and in speeches, but what Bannon told the Economist will chill McConnell to the bone.
“Mitch McConnell, I’m going to light him up.”
Bannon told the Economist that despite no longer being in the White House, he has a new angle in his role at Breitbart that he couldn’t take while he was on the government payroll.
“In the White House, I had influence … at Breitbart, I had power.”
The relationship between Trump and Bannon is nuanced and shows how far back their friendship goes.
“We will never turn on him, but we are never going to let him take a decision that hurts him.”
Even though Bannon is out of the White House, Trump can rest assured that he has an ally in the media that will fight for him and watch his back as he drains the swamp of these deep state operatives determined to take him down.
